Ty Traister
Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator

Coach Traister attended Central Mountain High School in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania. He then attended Bloomsburg University where he started 5 games at tight end as a redshirt freshman for the nationally ranked Super Region 1 Finalist Huskies who finished the 2008 season 11-2. Traister then transferred to Lock Haven University to pursue a degree in Health and Physical Education where he also played tight end and defensive end. Traister has coached at multiple levels including Head 9th Grade coach, 3 years coaching tight ends at DII Lock Haven University and 3 years as the Head Varsity Football Coach at Northampton High School in Eastville, VA. Traister resides in Virginia Beach with his wife Lindsay and newborn son Jack.

Curt Brown - Defensive Coordinator

Coach Brown will begin his 25th season coaching. This will be his 8th year on the FC staff after completing 7 years as the Head Coach at Granby High School. He played his high school football at Kempsville High School under Head Coach Ralph Gahagan and then went on to play college football at UNC under Head Coach Mack Brown. He and his wife Sandra have two children, Austin and Emily, who both recently graduated from Christopher Newport University and Shepard University respectively. 

CJ Weddle - Offensive Line / Academic Coordinator

Coach Weddle will begin his 14th year coaching at First Colonial. He began coaching at First Colonial in the fall of 2008 as the JV Assistant Coach, then JV Head Coach from 2009-2014, and is currently responsible for the Varsity Offensive Line, Academic Coordinator, and Co-Special Teams Coordinator. He played his collegiate football at Christopher Newport University under Head Coach Matt Kelchner from 2004-2007 where he was an all-conference and all-state guard. Coach Weddle is a 2004 graduate of First Colonial where he earned all-district honors at both offensive center and defensive tackle for football coach Sam Scarborough from 2000-2003. Coach Weddle  and his wife Nona were married December 2020. They reside in Virginia Beach with their two cats Holly and Penelope (6).

Lemort "Smitty" Smith - Tight Ends and Linebackers

This is Coach Smitty's  7th year coaching football. He started coaching at First Colonial in 2014 as the defensive coordinator for the JV team. As a player,  in 2008 he led the beach with 17 sacks and was named MVP. In 2010, Coach Smitty played for North Carolina Wesleyan and then came back to First Colonial in 2013 to help out with basketball and football so his son, Scott, could grow up around the FC community. 

Eddie Smith - Head JV Coach / Defensive Line / Fundraising

Coach Smith begins his second year as an assistant football coach with First Colonial High School. He previously served as an running backs coach, offensive and defensive line coach at William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, Virginia. A native of Virginia Beach, Smith is an alumnus of First Colonial High School where he played football under Frank Webster. Smith went on to earn a football scholarship to the University of Virginia, where he was a four year letterman, Captain his senior season, and earned the John Acree Memorial Leadership Award. He earned A BS in Education and served as a graduate assistant football coach under Dick Bestwick. Smith later served as a Special Agent with the US Secret Service and went on to found Fit4Living Personal Fitness Training business in New Jersey, holding certification as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with the NSCA. Smith is the proud father of two sons, Brandon (29) and Justin (24).

Jason Boswell - Assistant JV Coach

Coach Boswell will begin his second season coaching football at FC. Coach Boswell will work with the Junior Varsity, he has also coached quarterbacks, wide receivers, and defensive backs. Coach Boswell is also the Head JV Wrestling Coach. Coach Boswell is from Virginia Beach and is a graduate of Floyd E. Kellam High School. In high school, coach Boswell played football and wrestled. He then attended Campbell University where he wrestled for the Camels. He is currently a Teacher Assistant at First Colonial.
